Seydel: Inventor of stretch-break converters

Seydel is the leading company in the manufacture of machines for the transformation of continuous chemical fibres in discontinuous fibres for worsted system spinning. In the mid-30s – with the invention of polyamide – Seydel developed the first stretch-break converters.
At the end of 1966, the production of sisal, hemp and jute was given up in order to fully concentrate on the stretch-break converter market.
Since then, Seydel has successfully contributed to the development of the tow-to-tow processes first and tow-to-yarn processes later – with the multiblender and integrated drawing frames.

Seydel has installed more than 2500 stretch-break converters worldwide, in Europe, USA, South America, Africa, Middle and Far East including China.
The high quality and strength level of these machines, which rendered the Seydel brand famous, must be highlighted.
They have long been identified with the stretch-breaking process.

Seydel: World class specialist in long staple fibre processin

Reliability and minimum maintenance of the heads
The ceramic surface of the cylinders and the anti-static polyurethane coating on the pressure rollers avoid the wear of the heads and ensure their long life.
Lubrication by additional oil cooler
This avoids excessive heating of the gears and premature wear.
Maximum functionality and easy operation of the pre-drafting zones is ensured by the freely accessible cylinders.
Safety stop and knot detectors
These mechanisms at feeding as well as anti-lap devices on the rollers of the heads provide for immediate machine interruption in case an anomaly is found in the tow or in the production process.
Simplified machine interface
The 873 stretch-break converter is equipped with an interface touch–screen, using icons and word messages, simplifying setting and control operations for all machine functions.
The dialoguer allows to set all machine functioning parameters and visualizes operating conditions and possible malfunctions in order to guarantee safe operation.
Stored recipes
The machine-operating parameters for a specific production lot may be saved as ”recipe” and retrieved at a later time for similar jobs. Optionally, there is the possibility of network connection and remote service assistance.

873 STRETCH-BREAK CONVERTER: THE EXCLUSIVE TWO-LEVEL STRETCH-BREAKING TECHNOLOGY

Two-level tow path: ideal technological conditions with two-level configuration

This configuration, featuring a special tow path turning head (trio), has been designed to maintain the ideal ratch and draft technological conditions while ensuring equivalent or even better results than in-line machines.
The type 873 stretch-break converter is suitable for the conversion of any type of tow, with adjustable and reproducible diagrams.

Its main features are:
  • Minimum floor space
  • Simplified construction
  • Optimal ergonomic conditions
  • Great accessibility
  • Reduced walking distances
  • High productivity
In addition, the type 873 has the following potentialities:
  • In-feed capacity 240 ktex (base 3.3 dtex)

The 1450 mm long heater plates (power: 48 kW), made up of 4+4 sections, ensure effective and uniform heat penetration, for maximum fibre shrinkage even at high speed and for any type of tow. The setting range of each section is adjustable between 0 and 200 °C and is kept under constant control. The 873 stretch-break converter is equipped with a thermoregulating panel of the heater plates.

Sturdy and reliable breaking heads for perfect wool-like diagrams
Optimal diagrams thanks to the adjustable breaking and rebreaking zones

The adjustable ratch settings (from 95 to 180 mm) on the final breaking heads (3) allow to obtain optimal diagrams.
The material is pre-broken in the first breaking zone, while rebreaking and fibre diagram optimization are effected in the second zone. A working pressure of 17000 up to 22600 N on the breaking rollers ensures perfect head grip. In order to avoid premature
wear and tear, the pressure rolls and breaking cylinders are water-cooled from the inside. The use of a water chiller is recommended. Perfect cleanliness is guaranteed by an effective suction system in the breaking areas which prevents that dust contamines the top.

Compactor, Crimper and Steamer: a special trio for perfect top formation

The adjustable crimper and sliver compactor enables maximum sliver cohesion.
After the rebreaking stage, a special funnel compacts and interlocks the fibres with air jets, for better fibre cohesion. The crimper allows to achieve an optimal amount of crimp and its pressure can be adjusted accordingly to suit the specific weight and type of material processed.
The continuous steaming device allows to achieve full and uniform fibre shrinkage, even at high speed. If the steamer is not used, its position must be changed. The dry and flawless sliver is cooled into the cans by an automatic can turning and doffing device.

Feeding creel: simplified construction

Tow preparation at feeding: Perfect tow preparation is ensured by a series of tow-opening and guiding devices. These include a special vibrator for the separation of the filaments.

Simplified pre-drafting heads: highly reliable and long-lasting

Thanks to the two-level technology, the pre-drafting heads employ only 9 cylinders instead of 12 normally found on in-line machines.
